Running and walking
If you like running and walking, Bohinj is the right place for you. Breathing fresh mountain air, conquering kilometres of gradual and mountain trails, breathtaking views (upward and downward) are something running through city streets and parks can’t hold a candle to.
If you are willing to share the trail with cyclists, you can run or walk on the 15-kilometre Bohinj cycling trail. The circular route around Lake Bohinj, one of the first challenges for anyone visiting Bohinj, is not much shorter. A brisk walk of 11.5 km around the lake will take you an hour and a half, but if you are going to take breaks and admire the beautiful surroundings, add an hour or two. From Škantar House in Ribčev Laz you have five minutes to the lake trail, then you walk along the northern shore to Ukanc, and from there you can extend your walk to the Savica waterfall, which is a few kilometres further. Then you return whether on foot along the road or board a touristic boat that will take you back to the starting point in half an hour. The path is varied and very picturesque.
Stara Fužina, which is only 1 km away from Škantar House, is the starting point for an 11.5 kilometre walk to the Voje waterfall (also Mostnica and Šum). A fee must be paid for part of the trail through Korita Mostnice (2 km), but it is worth it. The trail then leads you through the Voje valley, and the waterfall is a little further from the Voje waterfall Refreshment Centre.
You can climb Vogel (the highest point is at 1922 m above sea level) on foot – it will take you about an hour and a half – or go there by gondola (you can take your bike with) or chairlift.
Guests staying in our apartments in Bohinjska Bistrica who want to take a short walk in the surroundings will first be directed to Ajdovski gradec, 2.6 km away (45 minute walk) or to the source of the Bistrica stream.
